Rooted in Values, Focused on Impact

For more than a century, MJHS has been shaped by a simple but powerful belief: every person deserves to be cared for with dignity, compassion, and respect. These values date back to our founding in 1907, when the Four Brooklyn Ladies created an organization rooted in the Jewish principles of chesed (kindness) and tzedakah (righteous giving). Their vision continues to guide us today as we support patients and their families of every background across New York.

Our commitment goes beyond medical treatment—it reflects a deep understanding that people draw strength from culture, tradition, faith, and community. Whether it’s honoring Catholic mourning customs, ensuring families have access to spiritual care aligned with their beliefs, or creating space for meaningful rituals at the end of life, we strive to meet each person with an understanding of what matters most to them.

We are also guided by the needs we see every day. Many of the people MJHS cares for face challenges that extend beyond what insurance covers—caregiver strain, financial hardship, isolation, or the emotional and spiritual needs that accompany serious illness. These shortfalls are real, and they shape the impactful programs we have built to ensure no one is left without the support and comfort they deserve.

Philanthropy plays an essential role in sustaining our mission. Donor generosity helps us preserve our values-driven approach and ensures that programs created in response to community needs remain available to all who benefit from them.

Guided by a commitment to preserving our history, our values, and the evolving needs of the communities we serve, we remain dedicated to raising funds that help MJHS deliver care that honors the whole person—their culture, their traditions, and the values that shape their lives.
